Do you get frequent headaches? Are you a victim of migraine?

Do you get frequent headaches? Are you a victim of migraine?

Have you ever wondered what could be the reason, beyond stress/ lack of sleep??

Here is one reason most people miss, be aware, indeed “Awareness is first step to healing”

If you suffer from constipation, or if your bowel movements are not regular/ if your bowels don’t cleanse properly, it will give rise to head ache. Are you wondering what’s the logic, well here it is-

Internally, there is constant movement in our body, guiding the internal movement is Vaat- or wind- Vayu.

Just like in the external environment, where ever there is wind there is movement, if wind is absent, there is no movement and the result is stale air- unhealthy toxic atmosphere.

Similarly, inside our body movements are guided by wind or vaayu in Sanskrit. Though Vayu is the same component, based on its location and the direction of its flow, it is classified into10 different Vayus, 5 of them more critical- Apaana Udaana Samaana, Praana, Vyaana.

Excerpt from Yoga International article- 5 prana vayus-

VayuArea of BodyFunction
PranaChest, headGoverns intake, inspiration, propulsion, forward momentum
ApanaPelvisGoverns elimination, downward and outward movement
SamanaNavelGoverns assimilation, discernment, inner absorption, consolidation
UdanaThroatGoverns growth, speech, expression, ascension, upward movement
VyanaWhole bodyGoverns circulation on all levels, expansiveness, pervasiveness

For our current context, lets take a detailed look at two of the above- Apaana and Udaana

Apaan Vayu- guiding excretion, essentially faeces / urine (even birth of the baby is guided by this vaayu) – it is a downward vector movement. Apaana is the vital force necessary for expelling unwanted waste matter out of the body

Udayan Vayu- Upward vector movement. Towards our head, thoughts emotions intellectualisation discriminating expression are guided by this flow. Other than physiological and vegetative functions, these are several subtle functions carried out in the human body involving the mind and intellect. In fact there is continuous endeavour to excel in these faculties, being human!

Now, Udaana is exactly opposite vector to Apaana, therefore whenever there Apaana is restricted in its movement, or in other words downward flow is hampered, it directly vitiates the opposite flow, the upward movement of air- Udayan Vayu, exerting undue toxic pressure in the head region.

Now that you are aware of one more reason for that chronic head ache, get to the root cause, before popping a pill. By all means take medicine for relief, but address the root cause, so that your system gets its balance back
